That’s it! Just a few simple steps to make an adorable set of cookies!!
I hope that this tutorial, as well as my others, show that cookie decorating does not have to be difficult or overwhelming. In just a few simple steps, spread out with some dry time here and there, and beautiful cookies are born.
If you plan to package these cookies let them dry in front of a fan for 24 hours beforehand. If the icing is not completely dry before packing the icing will smear onto the bag.
I have recently fallen in love with platter cookie sets which use one cookie cutter to make eight of the same cookie that are then put together to create a beautiful design. I made an adorable pumpkin platter for my neighbor for Thanksgiving and offered a Christmas Tree platter for my 2025 Christmas Presale. They have been a huge hit and something I plan to offer for the majority of my holiday cookie presales.
My original plan was to use this platter set from Kaleidacuts.com as a small half platter to package in a 5×7; but after packaging my samples I felt like there was a lot of empty space in the box and decided to add a couple more to the box.

The clear boxes, cookie backer, pretied loop, and tag are all from sweetdreampackaging.com. Sarah has a large selection of amazing cookie packaging for all occasions. Her extraordinary packaging take these simple cookies and turn them into a luxurious gift.
I have all my presales planned from now until the Fourth of July and got my orders placed!

FAQ
24 hours in front of a fan is a long time to dry….will the cookies still be soft?
Yes! The layer of icing helps the cookie remain fresh and soft.
Tip: When my cookies come out of the oven I immediately place a lid on my baking sheet – this traps the steam into the pan and into the cookies.
I also bake my cookies on baking mats as opposed to parchment paper which helps the edges from getting too crispy.
Can I freeze cookies decorated in royal icing?
Yes! Cookies decorated with royal icing will last months and months in a freezer without losing any of their delicious flavor or texture.
Once the icing is completely dry heat seal the cookie in a cellophane bag and place into an airtight container. The day before you plan to give away or eat your cookie take the container out of the freezer but wait until it has reached room temperature before opening and removing cookies.
